Coker is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of Coker was 1,269. Coker is located in west-central Tuscaloosa County, approximately 10 miles northwest of Tuscaloosa, the county seat. The town is situated along Alabama State Route 82, which runs east-west through Coker. The town is named after William Coker, a pioneer settler who arrived in the area in the early 19th century. Coker was incorporated in 1924 and has a mayor-council form of government. Coker is home to several small businesses, including a post office, a convenience store, and a community center. The town is also home to Coker United Methodist Church, which was founded in 1835 and is one of the oldest churches in Tuscaloosa County. Coker is located in a rural area and is surrounded by forests, farms, and small lakes. The town is a short drive from the larger city of Tuscaloosa, which offers a variety of amenities and cultural attractions.
