Aliceville is a town in Pickens County, Alabama, United States. It is located about 40 miles west of Tuscaloosa. As of the 2010 Census, the population of Aliceville was 2,486. The town was founded in 1887 by the Alice Manufacturing Company, which established a cotton mill in the area. The company was named after Alice Ramsey, the daughter of one of the founders. The town was incorporated in 1889, and the mill was a major employer in the area for many years. Aliceville is home to the Federal Correctional Institution, Aliceville, a medium-security prison for women. The prison is located on the east side of town and is a major employer in the area. The town is served by the Pickens County School District, which operates Aliceville High School. The town also has several churches and a library. Aliceville is located in the Black Belt region of Alabama, which is known for its rich soil and history of agriculture. The town is situated in a mostly rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The Tombigbee River flows just to the east of Aliceville.
