Citronelle is a city in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. It is located about 35 miles northwest of Mobile and has a population of around 4,152 people, according to the 2010 Census. The city is known for its rich history and its natural beauty, with several parks and nature preserves areas located within its borders. Citronelle was founded in the early 1800s and was named after the French word for lemon, "citron," due to the large number of lemon trees that were grown in the area. The city was an important hub for agriculture and lumber in the early 20th century, and it remains a center of the forestry industry today. The city has several recreational facilities, including the Citronelle City Park, which features a playground, walking trails, and a large pond. The city is also home to the Mobile County Farm Center, which hosts a variety of events, including the annual Citronelle Watermelon Festival.
