Centre is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and approximately 70 miles (110 kilometers) northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. The city has a population of approximately 3,700 people. The city was founded in 1837 and was named after its central location in Cherokee County. Centre has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city is home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Cherokee County Historical Museum and the Cherokee County Fairgrounds.
