Camden was founded in 1843 and was named after Camden, South Carolina. It was incorporated as a town in 1844 and as a city in 1887. The city is located in the Black Belt region of Alabama, which is known for its rich soil and agricultural production. The main industries in Camden are agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing. The city is home to the Wilcox County Courthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse was built in 1859 and is an example of Greek Revival architecture.
