Boligee is a small town in Greene County, Alabama, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of Boligee was 1,260. The town is located in the west-central part of the state, about 35 miles southeast of Tuscaloosa. Boligee was founded in the early 1800s and was named after the Choctaw word for "big swamp." The town was an important center for timber production in the early 20th century and was home to several sawmills and lumber companies. The town is located in a rural area and is surrounded by forests and farmland. The main industries in the area are forestry and agriculture. There are several small businesses in Boligee, including gas stations, grocery stores, and a post office. Boligee is part of the Greene County School District and is home to Boligee School, which serves students in grades K-12. The town also has a community center, a volunteer fire department, and a small medical clinic.
