Benton is a town in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. It is located about 25 miles southwest of Anniston, the county seat. According to the 2010 Census, the population of Benton was 1,186. Benton was founded in 1851 and named for Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri. The town was incorporated in 1891. Benton is home to the Benton School, which serves students in grades K-12. The town also has a community center, a post office, and several churches. The surrounding area is predominantly rural, with agriculture being the main industry. Benton is located in the Appalachian Mountains region of Alabama and is known for its natural beauty, with forests, streams, and mountains in the surrounding area.
