Cortez is a small unincorporated community located in Manatee County, Florida, United States. It is situated on the western coast of Florida, near the Gulf of Mexico, just south of Anna Maria Island and Bradenton Beach. Cortez was founded in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a fishing village, and it still maintains its strong ties to the commercial fishing industry to this day. The village has a rich history, and visitors can learn more about its past at the Florida Maritime Museum, located in the heart of Cortez.
