It is situated on Chokoloskee Island, which is part of the Ten Thousand Islands region of southwestern Florida. History: Chokoloskee has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. The Calusa people were the first inhabitants of the region, and they lived in the area for over 2,000 years. The Calusa were known for their skilled fishing techniques and their large canoes, which they used to travel the waterways of southwestern Florida.
