Bloomingdale is an unincorporated community located in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the county, about 15 miles east of Tampa. Bloomingdale covers an area of approximately 6.6 square miles and has a population of around 23,000 people. Bloomingdale was first settled in the 1850s, when a group of homesteaders established a community called Alafia. The area was later renamed Bloomingdale after a town in New Jersey, where one of the early settlers was from. The community grew slowly over the years, but experienced a boom in the 1970s and 1980s when many new housing developments were built.
