Avon Park is a city located in Highlands County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of Avon Park was estimated to be 8,819 people. The city covers an area of approximately 5 square miles. History: Avon Park was founded in 1886 and was named after the birthplace of its founder, Oliver Martin Crosby, in Avon Park, England. The city became a popular winter resort for wealthy tourists in the early 20th century, with several large hotels being built in the area. During World War II, Avon Park was home to an army airfield, which is now the Avon Park Executive Airport.
