Wofford Heights is a small community located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains in Kern County, California, United States. It is situated on the shores of Lake Isabella and is about 30 miles northeast of the city of Bakersfield. The community is part of the larger Kern River Valley region, which is known for its outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, and camping. Wofford Heights was named after its founder, Colonel Thomas Wofford, who established a sawmill and a store in the area in the late 1800s. The community grew in the early 20th century as a result of the construction of the Isabella Dam and the creation of Lake Isabella, which provided water for irrigation and hydroelectric power.
