Wilkerson is an unincorporated community located in Inyo County, California, United States. It is situated in the Owens Valley, which is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada and White Mountains. The community is located on the west side of the Owens River, about 12 miles north of the town of Independence, California. The history of Wilkerson dates back to the late 19th century, when it was settled by pioneers who came to the Owens Valley seeking agricultural land. The town was named after Charles Wilkerson, who was one of the first settlers in the area. He was a cattle rancher and farmer who established a farm in the valley in the 1870s.
