Watsonville is a city located in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. It is situated on the central coast of California, approximately 95 miles south of San Francisco and 35 miles north of Monterey. The city has a population of around 53,000 people, making it the second-largest city in Santa Cruz County after Santa Cruz itself. History: The area that is now Watsonville was originally inhabited by the Ohlone Native American tribe. In the 18th century, Spanish explorers arrived in the area and established a mission, which led to the eventual displacement of the Ohlone people. The town of Watsonville was officially founded in 1852, during the California Gold Rush. The town was named after Judge John Watson, a prominent businessman and landowner in the area.
