Visalia is a city located in Tulare County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Joaquin Valley, about 230 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles west of Sequoia National Park. As of the 2020 census, Visalia had a population of approximately 142,000 people, making it the fifth-largest city in the San Joaquin Valley and the 44th largest city in California. Visalia was founded in 1852 as a way station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. It later became an agricultural center due to its location in the fertile San Joaquin Valley, and is known for its citrus production, especially oranges. Today, Visalia is home to a diverse economy, with major employers including the Kaweah Delta Medical Center, Visalia Unified School District, and VF Outdoor, among others.
