Valley Springs is a small census-designated place located in Calaveras County, California. It is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, about 35 miles southeast of Sacramento and 60 miles northeast of Stockton. History: Valley Springs was originally founded as a trading post in the mid-1800s during the California Gold Rush. The town grew rapidly as a center for agriculture and transportation, and by the turn of the 20th century, it was a bustling community with a thriving downtown area. The town was named for the natural springs that can be found in the area.
