Valley Center is a rural unincorporated community located in northern San Diego County, California. It is situated in the northeastern part of the county, approximately 35 miles north of downtown San Diego, and is surrounded by mountains and rolling hills. History: Valley Center was originally inhabited by the Native American tribe of Luiseño, who were hunter-gatherers and farmers. In the late 19th century, European settlers arrived and established farms and ranches. The town was named after its location at the center of several valleys, including the Pauma Valley and the San Pasqual Valley.
