Tomales is a small unincorporated community located in Marin County, California, United States. It is situated on the eastern coast of Tomales Bay, about 48 miles northwest of San Francisco. Tomales is surrounded by rolling hills, open pastures, and lush forests, making it an idyllic rural setting for those seeking peace and quiet away from the city. History: The area around Tomales has been inhabited for thousands of years by the Coast Miwok people. In the mid-1800s, European settlers arrived in the area and established ranches and dairy farms. Tomales was named after a Miwok village located nearby.
