It is situated in the southeastern part of the county, in the Conejo Valley, approximately 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles and 14 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 128,502. Thousand Oaks is known for its beautiful natural scenery and has been ranked as one of the safest cities in the United States.
