Tehachapi is a small city located in Kern County, California, United States. It is situated in the Tehachapi Mountains, which are part of the southern Sierra Nevada range. The city has a population of approximately 14,500 people, according to the 2020 United States census. History: The name "Tehachapi" is derived from the Kawaiisu Native American word for "hard climb," which is a reference to the difficult mountain pass that early settlers had to cross to reach the area. The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1850s, and the town of Tehachapi was established in 1876 with the construction of a railroad station.
