Summerland is a small coastal community in Santa Barbara County, California, located approximately 5 miles southeast of the city of Santa Barbara. It is situated on the bluffs above the Pacific Ocean, with the Santa Ynez Mountains rising behind it. History: Summerland was originally inhabited by the Chumash people for thousands of years before the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 18th century. The first European settlement in the area was established by homesteaders in the late 1800s, and the town was officially founded in 1889.
