South San Gabriel is a census-designated place located in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Gabriel Valley, about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The population of South San Gabriel was 8,070 according to the 2020 United States Census. History: South San Gabriel was originally inhabited by the Tongva Native Americans. Later, it became a part of the San Gabriel Mission lands, which were granted to the mission by the Spanish government in the 18th century. After the Mexican War of Independence, the lands were divided and sold to various ranchers.
