Soquel is a small unincorporated community in Santa Cruz County, California, located approximately 70 miles south of San Francisco and 35 miles north of Monterey. Soquel is situated on the northern coast of Monterey Bay and is bordered by the Santa Cruz Mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The name Soquel is believed to have been derived from the Costanoan Indian word "soquelom," which means "creek that runs through the sycamores." The town is centered around Soquel Creek, which runs through the center of the community and provides a picturesque setting for outdoor activities.
