It is the largest city in Sonoma County and the fifth-largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a population of approximately 180,000 people. History: Santa Rosa was founded in the 1830s and was incorporated as a city in 1868. The city was named after Saint Rose of Lima, a 16th-century Spanish saint.
