San Marcos is a city located in the North County region of San Diego County, in the southern part of California. It has a population of approximately 96,000 people, according to the United States Census Bureau. History: San Marcos was first settled by Native Americans over 9,000 years ago, and later by Spanish explorers in the late 18th century. The area was initially used for agriculture, and San Marcos was primarily known for its citrus and avocado groves. It became a city in 1963.
