Round Mountain is a small unincorporated community located in Shasta County, California, in the United States. It is situated at an elevation of 2,336 feet (712 m) and is located about 10 miles (16 km) north of the city of Redding. The community is named after a nearby volcanic peak known as Round Mountain, which rises to an elevation of 6,380 feet (1,945 m). The area was originally inhabited by the Wintu people, who used the abundant natural resources of the region to sustain their way of life. In the mid-19th century, European settlers began to arrive in the area, drawn by the Gold Rush and the fertile land. The town of Round Mountain was founded in 1878, and it quickly grew into a thriving community with its own post office, school, and businesses.
