Rodeo is a small unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California, United States. It is located on the eastern shore of San Pablo Bay, about 25 miles northeast of San Francisco. History: Rodeo was originally settled in the late 1800s as a ranching and farming community. It was named after the livestock roundups that took place in the area, which were referred to as "rodeos." The town grew slowly until the discovery of oil in the 1890s, which led to a boom in population and development. By the early 1900s, Rodeo had become a major oil-producing center, with several large refineries in the area.
