Rancho San Diego is an unincorporated community in San Diego County, California, located in the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains. It is situated about 20 miles east of downtown San Diego, and is bordered by the communities of Spring Valley, El Cajon, Jamul, and La Mesa. The area that now comprises Rancho San Diego was historically inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, who were the original residents of the region. The area was then settled by Spanish explorers in the late 18th century, and became part of the Rancho El Cajon land grant in the mid-19th century.
