Quartz Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is located in the Antelope Valley region, approximately 60 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. History: Quartz Hill was named for its abundance of quartz in the area. The town was established in the late 19th century as a stagecoach stop along the route from Los Angeles to the gold mines in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In the early 1900s, the town became known for its agricultural industry, including crops such as alfalfa, wheat, and barley.
