It is located in the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley, near the cities of Bakersfield and Visalia. The community is named for the two major crops grown in the area: cotton and poplar trees. Poplar-Cotton Center was originally settled in the early 20th century by farmers who were attracted to the fertile land and favorable climate of the San Joaquin Valley.
