Orinda is a city located in Contra Costa County in the state of California, United States. It is a suburban community situated in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, approximately 20 miles east of San Francisco. History: Orinda was originally inhabited by the Native American Miwok tribe before being colonized by Spanish explorers in the late 18th century. In the mid-19th century, it was part of a large land grant called Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados. In the early 20th century, Orinda became a popular destination for wealthy San Franciscans who built summer homes in the area. It was officially incorporated as a city in 1985. Population: According to the US Census Bureau, Orinda has a population of around 18,000 people.
