Oildale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley, north of the city of Bakersfield. History: Oildale was founded in 1909 when oil was discovered in the area. The town quickly grew into a bustling oil town, with numerous oil derricks and oil-related businesses. The population peaked in the 1940s and 1950s with a population of over 20,000 people.
