Oakhurst is a census-designated place located in Madera County, California, USA. It is situated in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is approximately 14 miles south of the entrance to Yosemite National Park. Oakhurst has a population of around 3,500 people and covers an area of 3.9 square miles. History: Oakhurst was first settled in the late 1800s as a logging town. In the early 1900s, the Yosemite Lumber Company built a sawmill in Oakhurst, which became the primary industry in the area. Oakhurst was named after a large oak tree that stood in the center of town. The tree was eventually cut down, but a monument now stands in its place.
