It is situated in the southern part of the county, near the coast and approximately midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Here are some facts about Nipomo: History: Nipomo was originally inhabited by the Chumash people, who lived in the area for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. The town was founded in the mid-19th century as a stagecoach stop between San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria. Geography: Nipomo is located in the Nipomo Mesa, which is a broad coastal plain that is bordered by mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The town covers an area of approximately 14 square miles and has a population of around 16,000 people.
