Needles is a small city located in the Mojave Desert, in the eastern region of San Bernardino County, California, United States. The city covers an area of about 30 square miles and has a population of approximately 5,000 people. History: Needles was founded in 1883 as a result of the construction of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway, which connected Chicago to Los Angeles. The town was named after a group of pointed rocks in the nearby Colorado River. During the early 20th century, Needles was a major transportation hub for the region, with trains, stagecoaches, and steamboats all passing through the town.
