Muir Beach is a small, picturesque beach community located in Marin County, California, just 16 miles north of San Francisco. The beach is named after John Muir, the famous environmentalist and naturalist, who once said that the view of the ocean from this spot was "so grand that it was difficult to keep in mind the fact that we lived in a civilized age." The beach itself is a stunning crescent-shaped cove surrounded by towering cliffs and rocky outcroppings. It is a popular spot for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and picnicking. The water can be chilly, so wetsuits are often required for surfing and swimming.
