Montecito is an unincorporated community located in Santa Barbara County, California, in the United States. It is situated just east of the city of Santa Barbara, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Montecito is known for its natural beauty, luxury real estate, and celebrity residents. History: Montecito was originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe for thousands of years. The first European to explore the area was Juan Cabrillo, a Portuguese explorer, in 1542. The land that is now Montecito was later granted to Spanish soldiers and settlers as part of the Santa Barbara land grant. In the 19th century, Montecito became a popular destination for wealthy Americans, who built mansions and estates in the area. The community has since become a popular location for celebrities and wealthy individuals.
