Mettler is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Kern County, California, United States. It is situated in the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley, about 15 miles southeast of the city of Bakersfield. As of the 2020 census, Mettler had a population of 194. Mettler covers an area of approximately 1.5 square miles, all of which is land. The CDP is located at an elevation of 387 feet above sea level. The community of Mettler has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century when it was originally founded as a farming settlement. The town was named after John H. Mettler, a prominent local farmer and landowner.
