Mecca is a small unincorporated community located in the Coachella Valley region of Riverside County, California, United States. It is situated about 10 miles southeast of the city of Indio and about 20 miles east of Palm Springs. Mecca is located in the eastern part of the Coachella Valley, which is a desert valley in Southern California. The area where Mecca is located has a long history of human habitation. Native American tribes, such as the Cahuilla, have lived in the region for thousands of years. The first European explorers arrived in the area in the 18th century, and the first settlers established a community in the late 19th century. The town was named after Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which is a holy city in the Islamic religion.
