Macdoel is a small census-designated place (CDP) located in the northern part of California, United States. It is situated in Siskiyou County, just south of the Oregon state line. The community of Macdoel covers an area of 2.9 square miles, all of which is land. As of the 2020 census, Macdoel had a population of just over 100 people. Macdoel was originally a railroad town, founded in 1910 when the Southern Pacific Railroad established a station there. The town was named after A.H. McDonald, who was an official of the railroad company. Macdoel grew as a center for lumber, agriculture, and dairy farming. However, over the years, the town has declined in population and economic activity.
