Lompoc is a city located in Santa Barbara County, California, United States. It is situated in the Lompoc Valley, which is a fertile agricultural area that is surrounded by hills and mountains. Lompoc is approximately 55 miles northwest of Santa Barbara and 150 miles northwest of Los Angeles. History: The area where Lompoc is located was originally inhabited by the Chumash people. The city was founded in 1874 as a temperance colony, which means it was a community that was established to promote abstinence from alcohol. Lompoc is named after the Chumash word "Lum Poc," which means "stagnant waters."
