Larkspur is a city located in Marin County, California, United States. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) south of San Rafael and 20 miles (32 km) north of San Francisco. The city is home to about 12,000 residents and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Larkspur was named after the larkspur flower that grows abundantly in the area. The city was first settled in the early 1850s by William Alexander Richardson, a Mexican land grant holder. Richardson built a house on what is now Magnolia Avenue, which is now known as the oldest home in Larkspur.
