Lamont is a census-designated place located in Kern County, California, United States. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley, about 10 miles southeast of Bakersfield. As of the 2020 census, the population of Lamont was 17,616. History: The area that is now Lamont was originally inhabited by the Yokuts Native American tribe. The town was founded in 1913 by a group of oil company executives who were drilling in the area. The town was named after an executive from the Standard Oil Company, Thomas W. Lamont.
