Kirkwood is a small, unincorporated community located in Alpine County, California, in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet above sea level and is surrounded by the Eldorado National Forest. Kirkwood is known for its world-class skiing and snowboarding at the Kirkwood Mountain Resort. The resort has over 2,300 acres of skiable terrain, with 86 trails and 15 lifts. It is also home to several terrain parks and has an average snowfall of over 500 inches per year. The resort is open during the winter months, typically from late November to late April or early May.
