Georgetown is a small town located in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about 40 miles east of Sacramento, and has a population of around 2,300 people. History: Georgetown was founded in 1849 during the California Gold Rush and was named after George Phipps, a local prospector. The town grew quickly during the gold rush era and became an important transportation hub for the mining communities in the area.
