Ford City is an unincorporated community located in Kern County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Joaquin Valley, approximately 14 miles southwest of Bakersfield, the county seat of Kern County. Ford City was established in 1910 as a company town by the Standard Oil Company, which owned and operated an oil refinery in the area. The town was named after Ford, a prominent Standard Oil executive. The refinery closed in the 1980s, and today, Ford City is primarily a residential community.
