The city is named after the citrus groves that once dominated the area. Citrus was incorporated as a city in 1997, making it one of the newest cities in Los Angeles County. It is primarily a residential community, with a mix of single-family homes and apartments. The city is served by the Azusa Unified School District and is home to several parks and recreational areas, including the 105-acre Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area.
