It is located along Route 58, approximately 57 miles (92 km) east of Bakersfield and is known for its large open-pit mine that produces Boron, which is used in various industrial and agricultural applications. The population of Boron was 2,253 at the 2010 census. The town is home to Boron High School, the Boron Branch Library, a museum, a golf course, and various other amenities. The area is also famous for its natural hot springs and the nearby Mojave National Preserve.
