Cottonwood is a town in Houston County, Alabama, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, about 15 miles northwest of Dothan. According to the 2010 census, the population of Cottonwood was 1,183. The town was named for the cottonwood trees that grow in the area. Cottonwood is located in a rural part of the state, and its economy is primarily agricultural. The town is home to several churches, a post office, and a few small businesses. Cottonwood is located near several lakes, including Lake Eufaula and Lake Seminole, which are popular destinations for fishing and other outdoor activities.
